about the collection
It started with a film... as a lot of my stories do.
Tiger Story is inspired by the spiritual journey that I've been on for the last 2-3 years, + reflects the ideas about the universe, our existence, + our purpose that I choose to believe. The idea of believing in the "Tiger Story" - the one where magic, serendipity, + divine guidance are real - came about after watching The Life of Pi with my husband. This belief system was challenged greatly when I lost my dad to cancer in January of 2021. Even though it felt like the universe wasn't inherently good in the moments following his passing, it felt worse not to believe in that goodness. My journey back to those truths about the universe + our existence is where Tiger Story, the collection, was born. Click next for more about the origins of my Tiger Story.
Spoiler alert... I might ruin the ending!
At the end of The Life of Pi, the author interviewing Pi asks if the story of traveling the ocean with a tiger is true. Pi reveals that he's been asked many times, + he offers an alternative story, the one where he + other humans were shipwrecked + driven to madness + murder. Pi then asks the author which story he thinks he'll write. The response? The tiger story... it's a better story.
And this is how I feel about our world + our existence. Many tout that life is hard, a struggle, difficult, but what if the opposite is true? What if the seemingly hard times are leading us exactly where we're meant to go? What if magic is real, nature is glorious, + humans are here - and leave - on purpose?

How to enjoy Tiger Story
Believing that the universe is inherently good, doesn't mean that we don't feel sad or experience heartache. It doesn't mean that there aren't dark nights. What it means is that in those times, when it seems like we can't see four feet ahead of us, there's a loving energy guiding us forward. That is the journey through the paintings of Tiger Story. A long night of emotion, enduring faith, + a willingness to keep going until the dawn breaks, all the while believing that magic, love, + universal guidance are our travel companions.

For me, the raven feather has come to symbolize a sense of power and resilience, femininity and magic. The raven is my reminder that I am on the right path.
